Library

Wyomissing Public Library's history is almost as long as that of Wyomissing Borough. In 1911, twenty women were invited to plan an organization promoting public spirit in the Borough. From this beginning the Civic League was born. The league realized that a library was essential.

By 1930 the library needed more space. That year Mrs. Ferdinand Thun, Chair of the Library Committee, offered to donate funds for a new library building. At this time, the Wyomissing Public Library Corporation was formed and the Women's Club ceased its era of library management. This new building, situated at the corner of Penn Avenue and Reading Boulevard, was a complete Wyomissing undertaking (Wyomissing Public Library). The current building located at 9 Reading Boulevard was dedicated in 1931, and was enlarged in 2002.

Schools

A unique feature of the Borough is that it is served by 2 separate school districts. The Wyomissing Area School District serves the areas of theWilson School District Website Opens in new windowWyomissing Area School District Website Opens in new window Borough south of the railroad tracks and the Wyomissing Hills area. The Wilson School District serves all other areas north of the railroad, including Berkshire Heights and Greenwood Mall. The Wyomissing Area School District consistently ranks high in standardized test performance.

Other educational institutions located within or surrounding the Borough of Wyomissing include The Yocum Institute for Arts Education, Berks Technical Institute, Albright College, Alvernia University, and the Berks-Lehigh Campus of the Pennsylvania State University.
