The Wyomissing Police Department is accepting applications for the position of police officer. Applications are available at the Wyomissing Borough Hall, 22 Reading Boulevard, or available below. Applicants must submit an application to the Wyomissing Borough Hall and pay the non- refundable fee of $45 by cash, check (payable to the Borough of Wyomissing), or money order, no later than Friday, October 4, 2019 at 4 PM to be considered for further processing.

Any applicant claiming Veteran’s Preference is responsible for providing any and all relevant documents, which shall at a minimum, include a form DD-214, no later than two (2) business days immediately prior to the date of the written examination.

Applicants must be a United States citizen, have reached their 18th birthday, be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer, be able to possess a valid PA driver’s license, and have a high school diploma or GED, plus at least one of the following:

  • A two (2) year degree or equivalent from an accredited institution of higher education; or
  • Ninety (90) semester credit hours from an accredited institution of higher education; or
  • Successfully completed the Commonwealth of PA Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission Act 120 and eligible for certification through MPOETC and seventy- five (75) credit hours from an accredited institution of higher education.

Applicants must successfully complete a written, oral and physical examinations, psychological screening, drug & alcohol testing, polygraph examination, and a thorough background investigation.

The starting base salary for a probationary police officer in 2020, after completion of the police academy is $60,474.

The written test will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 9 AM at the Wyomissing Area High School, 630 Evans Avenue, Wyomissing. Directions to the testing location are available below, or when submitting the application. Doors will open at 8:15 AM Candidates must produce photo ID to participate in each phase of the testing.

Candidates achieving a written score of 70% or better will proceed to the physical performance test, on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at 8 AM at the Alvernia University’s Track & Schlager Memorial Field. Directions will be provided. Candidates must produce photo ID to participate in each phase of the testing.
